The most exciting part of rocket fuel making is here. After mixing the fuel (sugar) and the oxidizing agent (potassium nitrate) thoroughly, we dropped a small amount of our mixture onto a heat proof mat and observed its combustion reaction.
Although I anticipated failure, the results turned out to be nearly perfect, whereby (as evident in the video) even a very small amount of the propellant mixture induced a violent combustion reaction. This is a great sign, since only if this level of reactivity occurs with the fuel that will go into the actual rocket, a high altitude launch is almost guaranteed.
